What to do with my Travel eSIM when I return home?

Landed back home? Here's exactly what to switch off, what to keep, and whether your eSIM is worth holding onto for next time.

What should I do when I return home?

When you arrive home:

  • Change your mobile data line back to your normal primary SIM.
  • Turn off the ZenSim travel eSIM.
  • Confirm data roaming is turned off for your normal SIM.
  • Check that calls and messages are using your primary line.
  • Decide whether to keep or delete the ZenSim eSIM.

You do not need to delete the eSIM immediately.

Should I keep my ZenSim eSIM installed?

If you expect to travel again within the next six months, we recommend keeping the ZenSim eSIM installed.

You can switch the eSIM off in your phone's settings while you are at home and add another country or plan through the ZenSim app when you travel again.

Keeping it installed means you may be able to top it up instead of installing another eSIM.

Is there a charge for keeping an eSIM installed?

There is no charge for keeping an inactive eSIM installed.

However, make sure the travel eSIM is switched off when you are not using it and that your normal SIM is selected for mobile data.

What are the advantages of keeping the eSIM?

Keeping your ZenSim eSIM can make future travel easier because:

  • You may not need to install another eSIM.
  • You can add a different country or plan to the same eSIM.
  • You can prepare a multi-country trip in advance.
  • Top ups receive 10% off the new-customer price.
  • Your existing eSIM settings and label remain on your phone.

When should I delete the eSIM?

If you are not planning to travel again within the next six months, you may prefer to delete it.

Removing old travel eSIMs helps keep your phone's mobile settings organised and can make installing and identifying the correct eSIM easier on your next holiday.

Should I delete the eSIM as soon as the trip ends?

Do not delete the eSIM until:

  • You have returned home.
  • You no longer need travel data.
  • All relevant plans have finished.
  • You are sure you will not need to troubleshoot or review the service.
  • You have decided not to reuse the eSIM for an upcoming trip.

Can I reinstall an eSIM after deleting it?

An eSIM may not be reinstallable using the original QR code after it has been deleted.

For this reason, do not delete an active eSIM or an eSIM you expect to use again soon.

If you delete it and later need another travel service, purchase a new eSIM through the ZenSim app.

Does turning an eSIM off delete it?

No. Turning an eSIM line off only disables it temporarily. The eSIM remains installed on your phone and can be switched back on later.

Deleting or removing the eSIM permanently removes its profile from the phone.

How do I turn the travel eSIM off?

The steps vary by device, but the option is usually found under:

  • iPhone: Settings → Mobile or Cellular → Select the ZenSim eSIM → Turn On This Line
  • Android: Settings → Connections, Network, or SIM Manager → Select the ZenSim eSIM → Turn SIM Off

Menu names vary between manufacturers and software versions.

What should I do with my phone settings after returning home?

Confirm that:

  • Your normal SIM is selected for mobile data.
  • Your normal SIM is selected for calls and messages.
  • The ZenSim eSIM is switched off.
  • Mobile data switching is configured as preferred.
  • Data roaming is disabled on your normal SIM unless you specifically need it.

How do I purchase a new eSIM for another trip?

Open the ZenSim app, choose your destination, and review the available plans.

If your previous ZenSim eSIM is still installed, first check whether you can use the Top Up eSIM option and receive the 10% discount.

If the previous eSIM has been deleted or is installed on another phone, purchase a new eSIM through the app.

What if I am travelling with a different phone next time?

Purchase a new eSIM for the phone you will take with you, unless you have successfully transferred the existing eSIM and confirmed it is available on the new device.

Do not purchase a top-up for an eSIM that remains installed only on your old phone.
